How to Use This Journal
Lesson Pages
Each page has space for the date and topic title, which you can fill in as you go. The dotted grid provides room for writing, drawing, diagrams, timelines, mind maps, and other ways of recording what the child has learned. Use the pages flexibly and print additional copies whenever you need more space.
Source Box
The Source box at the bottom of each lesson page is a place to record where the information came from. You might write the name of a book, a Qur’an reference, a hadith collection, a lecture, or a reliable website. Recording sources helps you find information again and encourages good research habits as your child gets older.
Suggested Topics
Use the topic list as a guide when planning your Islamic Studies lessons. Check off topics as you cover them, add your own ideas, and adjust your plans as your child grows. Some topics may take one lesson, while others may be explored over several weeks or revisited in later years.
Table of Contents
Use the Table of Contents to record the topics covered and their corresponding page numbers. Number the notebook pages using the circles at the bottom of each page, then write the relevant page number beside each topic.
The Table of Contents also includes an Understanding Rating and check boxes to record whether a lesson has been repeated. These can help you see which topics your child understands well and which ones you may want to revisit. You can print additional Table of Contents pages as your record grows.
